Electrical Equipment
I don't want this to look like I'm trying to sell products, However, all of the below Products are pretty much from one manufacturer.
The reason for this is simple, I think they are the best for my animals. They are accurate, long lived, and simple to use.
I have asked permission to use their photographs and descriptions of their excellent Products so some of the below is not written by me, I will however use a different font colour for their written work..

Habistat Pulse Proportional Thermostat with Day/night function.

Most of my Vivariums are controlled by Day/night Pulse Stats, I only use non light emitting heating elements such as Ceramic Heaters, Tubular Heaters and Heat mats, these I will add later. Below is Habistats technical explanation on how these awesome stats work.
Some of my Stats have been running for over 16 so there's no wonder why I use them.
The sophisticated pulse proportional thermostat is ideal for controlling higher power ceramic heaters and for heat mats, where constant warmth and not an On/ off cycle is required.
The function of this thermostat is far more sophisticated than the simpler on/off switching devices. It will very accurately control heaters and has a maximum load of 600 watts.
A normal thermostat switches a heater on full power until the set temperature is achieved. It then switches the heater off completely until the temperature drops below the set value, when the cycle starts over again. The gap between the heater being switched on and then off is called hysteresis. It is between these points that the accuracy of the controller is assessed.
The pulse proportional thermostat pulses electricity to the heater all the time, resulting in constant and very accurately managed warmth
Pulse proportional thermostat with the capacity to drop the temperature at night if attached to a timer or an optical controller. The function is the same as the standard Pulse proportional thermostat but with the added facility of a night time temperature drop facility.
With many species it is important to give them a cycle of warm day time temperatures and cool night temperatures.
Many species would experience this in their natural environment.
Through an additional mains input lead and via a time switch or a Habistat 'Night eye' the thermostat will lower the set temperature for a period of time set on the time switch or controlled by the 'Night eye' between 3 and 13 degrees Celcius lower than daytime temperatures.
When used with the 'night eye' the light levels will be sensed and the temperature will
automatically be switched down when it is dark, and back up again for the daytime. No more need
to adjust time switches with the 'Night eye' as it automatically adjusts to seasonal changes.

Habistat Dimming thermostat with Day/night function.

The sophisticated Dimming thermostat is designed specifically for controlling light bulbs.
The Dimming thermostat is one of the most accurate methods of temperature control and whilst it is perfect for controlling light bulbs, it can be used on almost any heaters.
Unlike other Habistat thermostats, it does require a minimum load of 40 watts, but has a maximum capacity of 600 watts at 230 volts. This is the only thermostat we recommend for use with incandescent light bulbs. It
uses the latest technology and operates in a manner similar to the Pulse proportional thermostat. Instead of pulses of power being supplied to the heater, it is supplied with a continuous variable supply of power or voltage. In principle this has a similar effect to light dimmers or rheostats in your home.

Habistat Moon Switch.

I use these units in conjunction with my day/night stats to switch the night time mode on.
The Moon Switch will switch a mains power line on and off depending on the light level.
When it is light the power will be off and when it is dark the power will be on. The difference between the on and off levels has been adjusted so that the unit does not flicker at the triggering point nor will it switch on and off due to minor
variations in brightness.
Essentially the unit detects day and night and can therefore switch things on that are required during the night.
The range of items that can be switched is only limited by a maximum load of 600 watts and the imagination. Most uses will include switching on heaters that are only required during the night.
One of the major advantages of the Moon Switch is that the natural day/night cycle is duplicated
including the seasonal variations of long day length summers and short day length winters.

Habistat Sun switch.

I use these units to switch my lights on and sometimes water features in some of the Vivs.
The Sun Switch is a light activated mains electricity switch. When the Sun Switch is in the light, the power will be switched on and when it is in the dark, the power will be switched off.

Habistat Twin Stat.

Some of my viv stacks have these to control the temperatures of the species that don't necessary need a night time drop.
This unit is simply two temperature thermostats on one box.
It is an on/ off switching device, that can be used with a variety of heaters. It has two accurate dials calibrated in both Fahrenheit and Celsius Ideal for controlling heat mats, and other low powered heaters up a maximum load of 300 watts on each heater.
This thermostat is not suitable for controlling light bulbs.
It is perfect for controlling two heaters independently. When a specific temperature gradient is required this is the unit to use. It will control two heaters with a maximum of 300 watts for each channel. This enables each heater to be set at a different temperature , even in the same terrarium.
One channel can control the general background heat, whilst the other channel can control a "hot spot" to give the reptiles that essential temperature gradient that is so important to their husbandry.
It can alternatively be used to control two separate heaters in two separate cages.

The New Digital Dimming Thermostat with built in Day/Night and Timer function.

I have just started using these new Stats, What can I say? They........Are........Awesome.....
I'm using one of these to control my Incubation room, and it is incredible.
Very simple to use and set, I have one of these controlling 3 x 3' tubular heaters to heat the room and a low energy bulb to light the room, it is doing it no problems at all. I have another on one of my Incubators controlling a 2' tubular heater, with such accuracy it's madness.
I have another controlling a Brooder and set the timer to turn on my Kettle so I can have a hot cuppa as soon as I get home from work LOL......
Suitable for most heaters and will provide a continual temperature rather than a hot / cold cycle.
Separate setting of daytime temperature and night time temperature. Continuous readout of current temperature and time.
Revolutionary Power Meter continually indicates % of power at the heater.
Coloured Icon flashes to indicate function presently in use. Separate timed circuit to turn separate heaters, lighting fans or spray systems on twice and off twice in a 24 hour period. Waterproof, 3 metre long, low voltage sensor. Adjustable alarm function to give visual and audible warning when temperature goes above or below set temperature parameters. Alarm can be disabled if not
required. Both upper and lower temperature limits can be set. Comes with preset parameters , so can just be plugged in and used if required.
Will not lose memory settings if power is disconnected. Measures to 0.1°c. Easy to set and use.
Maximum 600 watts. 12 months guarantee

Ceramic Heaters.

Nearly all of my Vivs have these ceramics, they last for months, some have been running for a few years.
This product supersedes "Pearlco" ceramic heaters which are no longer manufactured.
We have taken this opportunity to upgrade the product and give it a modern stylish look. Price remains the same. They are available in 4 different wattages and are a direct replacement in terms of power and function to the old range.
Very effective heaters for medium to larger cages with higher temperature requirements.
Precautions. Ceramic heaters operate at very high surface temperatures so caution should be exercised.
Guard the heater from direct contact by both you and your animals. Use a heater of the correct wattage for the size of cage and the temperature required. A HabiStat pulse proportional thermostat is the recommended controller for this heater.

Habistat Heat mats and Heat Strips.

Heat mats and heat strips have there uses, my brooders are heated by these, as are my racks. Out of all the different manufacturers that make these, I strongly believe that these are the best quality that money can buy.
Heat Mats produce ultra long wavelength infra red heat. This wavelength is invisible to the human eye and tends to furnishings in the cage rather than the air.
This action of heating is very similar to the sun and it has the ability to heat anything that it strikes but with the air temperature remaining
much lower. Reptiles absorb this at in a manner very similar to basking in a natural environment.
Heat mats do get warm but provide a very gentle warmth which the animal can sit under or on top of. Used under normal conditions the mats cannot burn the animal. It should be noted that heat mats give a gentle background heat. If you are keeping animals that requires higher temperatures, then you may require additional supplemental heating. Many diurnal or day active species of lizard require basking spots of rather high localised heat. Additional heat
sources should then be provided for these species. Heat mats are excellent primary heaters for
most applications requiring night time heat.
